A Serene Hum

The serene hum is a constant now. Every moment outdoors, or near an open window, is full with a cascading, end of summer, serenade.

The crickets know.

You can hear it in their song.

grass of parnasus

They know to hold captive each precious moment.  To seize the day and evening hours before the first frost brings about a whole new world.  A change that will force them into silence and into hiding. A change that will alter the landscape and the days.

Summer is dwindling. The signs of the impending change of seasons are all around.  The Goldenrod is bursting forth right next to the Purple Loose Strife.  The bees are extra busy searching all available flowers for nectar.

bee and thistle-2-w

Our stream is exploding with color.  This is the best time of year for flowers here.  And one of the best times to wade, explore, catch frogs, spot crayfish and get muddy, muddy, muddy!

It beautiful here.  Peaceful.  Serene.  A melody gurgles forth from the hidden springs.  The bugs pick up the bass and harmony.

One could lose all sense of time here.  Enjoying. Breathing deep. Worshipping. Splashing. Giggling.  And soaking in all God’s goodness wrapped up in a late summer day.

Change.

It’s in the air.

It’s something we can either be thankful for or begrudge.  I choose to look forward with thankfulness toward the changes that are right around the corner.

How about you?

Night Photography

Yikes! I need so much more practice on this!  We had a super cool lightening storm the other night and could not capture it at all.  I definitely need to study up on this and a remote would be handy too!  So, although I had really good intentions on getting a night shot this is all I could come up with.  Almost night…

It Swirls and Circles

Summer, it hinges around that one spot where I do so much.  It swirls and circles and comes back to the place where I can breathe deep, take in a spectacular view, shuck corn, snap beans, do my Bible Study, sip tea, watch my children play.  It’s the area that holds the memories and the corner I go to think.  It’s the landing spot for bottoms, flower pots, muddy boots, and flip flops. It’s the platform for dances and performances and a few disagreements.

front porch

This front porch it helps me to see, to know, to understand, to just take a breath and let it out nice and slow. It’s where I can think and contemplate. And I can feel God so close here.

I can take in the beauty from my front porch and the brilliant colors, soothe my soul

During the quiet hours of dusk as the Cicadas, Crickets and Tree frogs serenade me, I find blessings that surround my front porch.

There’s strength, integrity, and humor sitting in my driveway.

There’s Frisbee throwing, sidewalk chalk, and serious conversations about lightening bugs, dirt and God.

From here I can gaze out into the open fields and see nothing, but God’s goodness, majesty and beauty.

And when the sun does finally start to sink towards the horizon, I get thoroughly entertained.

This front porch of mine is full of blessings, swirling and circling in and around this old heart of mine.

I had grand plans for this one, but alas my week got away from me so the pattern of the siding on this old shed will have to do.

Then & Now

Four years ago I took the picture on the left (this is still SOOC) with my Kodak Point and Shoot. It really was and still is a good little camera. Back then I hadn’t started studying photography, but I knew that I loved capturing beauty with my camera.  Fast forward 3 years, I began studying photography and I finally got my SLR.  I’ve been learning ever sense! I captured my daughter dancing with a gorgeous sunset as her back drop this week.

Fingertips

This was my daughter’s suggestion!  She thought this pose would be perfect for fingertips.  What a little helper!
