God's Quiet Love

"The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save, he will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing."  Zephaniah 3:17

As 2010 dawns bright and new out my windows this morning, I am looking forward to a new year of learning to be quiet so that I may feel God's love surrounding me.  So often I take command of every situation and then feel anxiety grow and multiply when things begin to crumble.

About a month ago, I came across this verse when I was doing my devotions. I was randomly flipping the pages when I came to Zephaniah. I couldn't remember what the book was all about so I began reading. When I got to chapter 3 verse 17, I knew why I had been filled with curiosity about this book.  The Lord has been pressing upon my heart to just be still. To feel His love. To know His presence. To give all to Him. "He will quiet you with his love", encompasses so many of my needs right now.  When things get tough, crazy and unbearable this is what I say over and over until I feel His peace wrap right around me.

This year I will be focusing on letting the Lord quiet me with His love, for He is my strength and refuge.  He is my shield and will uphold me with his righteous right hand. May I always praise His glorious name!

What word, verse or portion of verse will you be focusing on this year?

  1. So true in the hustle and bustle of this world we need to be still so that we can hear His voice and feel his love. Thanks so much for the reminder. 'A great way to begin a new year.

May you feel His love and blessings abundantly this New Year!!!

  2. Nezzy is so right! Thank you for sharing this with all of us.
    Happy New Year

  3. Mercy, I needed to read this. What a beautiful picture!

  4. Such a beautfiul verse Jenn! Isn't God's Word amazing??? So full of richness ~ we really are blessed!!

May God bless you in 2010 with HIS peace and joy throughout whatever may come your way.

    In His Love,

  5. Did you and I just "comment" on this verse recently? I feel I did with someone and I know we just recently had a sermon at our church on this very verse... I keep thinking about it... because there are (many) days when I struggle to believe that God is singing over me. It's apparent in how often I rejoice over my children - or not. I have to remember to tell them MORE often, "Honey, you make Mama's heart sing". And, I know that he (God) longs to quiet me with his love first - then I can hear his singing over me.

Thanks for the reminder - again.

  6. I just read your anniversary post and it brought such a smile to my face. Congratulations on your anniversary!

I haven't chosen a verse for the year, but one that I have posted all over the place (hanging in my car, my kitchen, tucked inside books, by my bed, etc.) is the first 8 verses of Psalm 37.

I have those copies printed up and the instructions for me are in BOLD. My focus is applying what He says for ME to do. What a comfort to know that all I am responsible for is obedience to Him, and He takes care of everything else!

  7. This is perfect - just what I needed! Thanks for the much needed reminder and encouragement.

  8. He is my strength! I'll be concentrating on doing all I do in His strength, not in mine.

I had to smile at the concept of "quiet" with four kids. I have four, too! But I know in the midst of the chaos, we can have quiet in our spirits.

Come see me sometime. I'll be back!

Thank you for visiting my blog! I love to read your comments so take a few minutes and jot me a line or two!
