Even In the Winter

Normally winter doesn’t bother me.  I can take the cold, snow and shorter days all in stride. But, this year has been different. I don’t know if its because I’m getting older or just because my children and I have been so sick.  This year I have found myself counting the days until spring.  I have a yearning for green, vibrancy and flowers.

The other morning my oldest son came in from doing his chores and urged me to go back to the stream.  He promised me I would be able to get some great pictures.  So, I grabbed my camera, pulled on my winter boots, chore coat, fuzzy hat and thinsulate gloves. As I trudged back the well worn path I looked around me and all I saw was dull, muted winter colors.  I began to doubt whether my son had seen any beauty at all.  Then as I rounded the curve in the path I was rewarded, astounded and rebuked for my doubting.100_7474

The trees may be bare. Snow clouds may scuttle across the sky.  Winter may continue, but…

How can anyone question whether God is the creator of all things…

Look at the intricacies…

The delicate workings of a Master…

Even in the dead of winter, He provides beauty.

And on that day he lightened my heart and renewed my spirit with the awesomeness of His glory.

  1. Okay, Okay...I'll go outside.
    Thanks for the encouragement.

  2. the older i get...the more i dislike winter. maybe that is why so many of the elderly flock to florida :)

    your pics are lovely though

    definitely shows HIS handiwork.

  3. Your pictures are so beautiful...

It snowed around here, night before last, and so I knew I just had to take the little ones outside yesterday - but I was dreading the "getting all bundled up" and everything...
at my hubby's encourgament - I'm glad I did. It did my heart good.
I had my camera out there too... trying to capture all the beauty & my little ones faces as they are tasting the snow. ;)

This verse was all I could think about: "Taste and see that the Lord, He is good".

Well, your pictures reminded me again today to "get a glimpse; taste his beauty".

  4. OK, I'm really gonna give ya'll something to look forward to. The older I get the more I dislike (HATE) winter. Although your pics are just beautiful. I just came in from doin' chores and baby it's cold out there and the rain, sleet, snow mix should hit anytime.

You have yourself one fantastic day countin' down to Spring.

    God bless ya'll!!!

  5. How wonderful! Indeed His beauty is all around if we are willing to look for it! I'm glad your son drug you outside for a refresher session! Brownie points for him, huh?!

  6. Beautiful pictures. God certainly does bring some beautiful and intricate scenes in Winter even in the midst of all of the dreariness that can come from it. That being said, I am definitely ready for Spring. It has been such a bad winter here this year. I can't wait to take my son outside instead of having to rush him inside anytime I have to take him anywhere to ensure he doesn't get too cold. And I'm excited to begin gardening.

Oh, I went to your recipe link and made those peanut butter cookies. They're delicious!

  7. I'm finally getting caught up on your blog! I was 4 posts behind- gasp! Those pictures are beautiful! I wish I could have shared that walk with you!

  8. Oh how gorgeous these pictures are Jenn! Yes, God is the glorious Creator ~ even (especially?) in winter. Hang in there...spring really is on its way!

  9. Beautiful! Just goes to show that we can find God's beauty anywhere if we have the right perspective.

  10. You always find a way to express our Creator's work so beautifully. Thanks Jenn... the way we should all see it.

  11. love it. so often we do forget the beauty around us. especially in the cold of winter. this was inspiring, thankyou.

  12. Beautiful post! It's snowing again today so instead of complaining I will marvel at the beauty and reflect on the goodness that surrounds us. Thanks for sharing.

  13. Those really are beautiful pictures. I still don't want the cold, but you make it look good!
