Learning From God's Word

100_4294-1

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.      Psalm 19:14

I came across this verse about a week ago.  I have been memorizing it for the past couple of days and I think I have it down. I know it isn't long, but sometimes I have a hard time keeping the words in the correct order!  I also have been meditating on it throughout my days, trying to glean from it what the Lord would have me to learn.

I have found that picking a verse and focusing on it for a week or two is a great way for me to immerse myself in God's word.  As a mom of four children and a home schooling one at that, I find the day has started and ended before I know it.  This is one way that I can keep my mind on the things of the Lord.  It isn't overly taxing to focus on a single verse and I can gain so much wisdom from God's words.

Another way I plan to focus on the Lord is to pray the verse I am learning over each of my children, myself and my husband.  So with Psalm 19:14 it would go something like this...

Dear Heavenly Father,

May the words of Isaac's mouth and the meditation of his heart be pleasing to You.  Help him to guard his thoughts and his words.  Fill him with compassion and help him to speak with kindness.  Help him to please You, His Rock and Redeemer.

How about you?  How do you focus on the Lord during your busy days?

  2. that's awesome! i too am purposefully putting scripture to memory. i was motivated by Beth Moore's LMP blog to do 2 scriptures a month. I've been writing them down in a spiral bound index card thingy and taking it everywhere. i've also been talking it out with my kids and i'm gonna take your idea of praying it over them.

this month's first verse for me is 1Cor.13:4.

I also find that when I sing worship songs with my kids (especially ones that contain scripture) I'm more focused on the Lord through the day and so are the kids.

  3. What beautiful and encouragaing words. The Lord is always there for us even when we don't even realize. Especially when we are busy we tend to forget. It's hard to slow down and take that extra breath and THANK GOD!

  4. Excellent post today! I am in the same boat with you on how the day ends before we realize it (so fast!) and I do meditate on scriptures once every two weeks or so. It is also so good to apply the scripture for ourselves and make it into our own prayers!

  5. I try to take time to get into the Word before the kids get up. I then try to meditate on the overall theme of the scripture I read throughout the day. I really, really like your idea of praying scripture over your family. I don't pray for them as consistently as I should. Thank you for that insightful wisdom. I'm definitely going to try to incorporate that into my life!

  6. That is a beautiful prayer, you certainly have a way with words! Did you take that picture yourself? You are so blessed to have friendly lil' birdies where you live :) I am in search of a KJV Bible and when I get one, I am definitely going to memorize scriptures! Thanks for sharing, you picked out a great verse to memorize.
